Celebrating Independence Day - July 4, 2020

Celebrate and light up! There’s more reason to celebrate. Washington’s Independence Day celebrations take many characters or habits. From grand firework display to family-focused festivals.

 

However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the Governor’s stay at home order, all fireworks shows are canceled or rescheduled for 2020.

Even the Seattle Seafair Summer Fourth on Lake Union, which is known and voted as one of the nation’s best shows by USA today, has been canceled. Despite this, we’ve discovered other ways to celebrate the event.


Virtual Fireworks

Tacoma Rainiers will be celebrating and have a Fireworks display on July 3 at 9:40 PM to 10 PM. They will be streaming the display LIVE on their Facebook Channel - Tacoma Rainers: 3rd of July Fireworks Virtual Watch Party.

Another Virtual Celebration will be NBC. They will be broadcasting Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks from New York City from 8 PM to 10 PM. You can also watch it streamed at nbc.com or on the NBC app. And watch featured performances by John Legend, Black Eyed Peas, and Tim McGraw.

KING TV will playback previous Seafair Summer 4th fireworks show starting at 10 PM. Another closer to home broadcast would be the Port Angeles Regional Chamber of Commerce that will start at 8 PM. A local band, Black Diamond Junction, will be performing and followed by a fireworks show at 10 PM. The celebration will be through Facebook Livestream. Backyard Celebration

Since there won’t be any at-the-park-barbecues celebrations and gatherings are constraints, it doesn’t mean you shouldn't be celebrating the 4th of July. You can still have fun and celebrate it with your family and a few close friends and relatives. Gov. Jay Inslee's Phase 2: Reopening Guidelines that allow five (5) people outside your household to have outdoor recreation and gatherings.

Kids have been used to watching everything online. Why not consider one for this year? And add a little spice by doing a traditional backyard barbecue. Fire up the grill, cook a bunch of traditional side dishes, play games, create joyous moments with your loved ones.

Or you can enjoy takeout spaghetti dinner and strawberry shortcake at Sno-Valley Senior Center. July 3rd Spaghetti Dinner, takeout includes a choice of meat or vegetarian sauce, garlic bread, salad, and a cookie, for $12/person. Family dinner, good for 4 will be $40. And pre-order Strawberry Shortcake on July 4, it will be available from 10:30 AM to noon. Order in advance and pick up at the senior center.
